About
Craft & Artistry
Once a small-scale and laborious craft, weaving is now a fast-paced and competitive industry. But while new technology drives Robert Noble’s production processes, traditional skills and attitudes continue to inform our design, our service and our product quality.
Yarn colour and quality selection is determined both by the historical knowledge held in our archive and the modern expertise of our gifted designers. Our skilled technicians are responsible for threading the yarns by hand through our machinery before any buttons are pressed. Even when our looms are working at full speed, people have a vital supervisory role to play. Keen eyes preside over all stages of the weaving process to ensure that the every fabric produced by Robert Noble is of the same consistently high quality.
Where minor inconsistencies are discovered in our cloths, our talented darners use the most basic of tools combined with established techniques to remove any weaving faults such as double threads and remedy snags. Nowhere in our production process is the modern application of traditional skills more beneficial.
